A KOKUBUNJI village grew around the local KOKUBUNJI Temple
located in all provinces. The KOKUBUNJI were provincial
temples set up by Emperor SHOMU in 737.
The men's KOKUBUNJI were under the jurisdiction of TODAIJI,
the women's under HOKKE-JI with ten AMA in each.
