The Naoe Shizu group were Yamato Shizu specialists, Soshu Master "10 Students" Kaneuji and Shizu Kanetomo and their descendants, who had traveled to the mountain town of Naoe in Mino Province. See Naoe

I have examined every Mino smith description, searching the attributes of the Jinie and Hamon this sword exhibits and see only one: Kaneshige - who was a Naoe man.

Kanzan Sayagaki: "NAOE SHIZU". It is an important note that the SAYA-GAKI does not say “DEN.” This is a specific statement. It is in older JO polish, JO SHIRA-SAYA with TSUNO Horn fittings and fine pale gold-covered single HABAKI.

TACHI SUGATA retaining FUNBARI is O-SURIAGE NAKAGO.
TORII ZORI reaches to an extended CHU-KISSAKI.
This piece is in excellent condition, showing no KIZU nor SHINGANE RAI problems. The steel is dark Mino steel.

A generally low lying HAMON, an appraisal-point for NAOE SHIZU, is filled with handsome HATARAKI, of Nie Hakikake and SUNAGASHI throughout.  The JI-DAI of NAOE SHIZU place to the late-KAMAKURA to the Eikyo.

Itame and Mokume Hada runs. Masame in the Shinogi-Ji in Dark steel. Strong JiNie is pulled into Hakikake in places.
KO-NIE Kawazu and Kenbo-like GUNOME MIDARE BA with many TOBI and SHIMABA dotting along, which are rare in early Mino. Nie Hakikake and Sunagashi streams through figures.

The ROKUSHIYA were KUGO aristocracy until the MEIJI when the owner was given this family treasure as he came into private life. His son is the only remaining of his line and has placed the piece for sale.

This TACHI was offered from the first owner since an original family holding.
