Excellent and Classic - Beloved Higo, Smooth Patina Iron
| Gold inlay dresses Higo iron.
This is the best preserved Katana I have seen - exactly as it was. Original
Higo leather wrap shows a uniquely placed "Cow's Ears" through the Kashira.
Both blade and Koshirae are fully papered, both wholly original to this
Kanbun period Samurai piece. This piece shows the time and spirit of the
Kanbun
Note: Kaga-seki, Echizen-seki and Mino-seki bespeak of the time before the Genroku - along the Hokuriku, the Tosan and Tokaido. Not of sword-styles as such - but a way that life was; then.

| This is an unchanged, Ubu Kaneyasu Katana just as it was in 1661. In old polish, it is a wildly exuberant, high-reaching Soshu blizzard O-Gunome Choji Midare of Billowing Clouds in fine Ko-nie and sharply placed Nie and Ji-nie to contrast. This Hamon is his best work and shows all of his Soshu style Ko-nie Deki O-Gunome and Choji Midare attributes. |

Placed like a Stupa, uniquely stylized Kanji sit as if in stone. Signature styles such as we see here are seen in the better pieces of the Kanbun, Hokuriku and mark the best of the Kanbun style.
| The extravagant and fine
execution of the Mei is a departure from published examples and tell us
this is his proudest work.
Originally from Seki, he moved to Edo and studied under Omura Kaboku (Hawley KA-2). Kaneyasu made swords in Koshu and is famous for his Ko-nie Soshu Hamon. Also listed Tokuno pg 140 and Fujishiro Shinto-Hen pg 60. This is a titled smith having been awarded Sagami-no-Kami. See titles, Sho-shin and under Smiths. Goto Shichirobei Kaneyasu Ubu, one Mekugi-ana, Taka-no-ha Yasuri - perfect. |
