There is a
wide range to the quality of swords and fittings. High quality are few.
The Japanese sword organizations
have a stepped appraisal system to address quality. Juyo for NBTHK, Yushu
for NTHK.
Juyo and Yushu are the upper tier.
The sword market trades Hozon-series
swords in prices roughly equivalent to that of a family sedan. Juyo values,
however, range closer to a small family home.
Swords do not depreciate and the
market for important pieces is more stable than all other markets, world-wide.
Being treasured and rare, serious collectors graduate to the sought stability
of Juyo and Tokubetsu Juyo.
Juyo is an exclusive club.
Because values
are solid, collectors and dealers conduct careful planning for their acquisitions.
The considerations in Hozon are
that a piece be attractive and a positive-going value for the price. This
assumes a suitable buyer at some later time.
With Juyo, however, everything
is attractive and market is assured. In fact, tight. A collector finds
his interests have few available examples. Often only one exists. As well,
any good piece has several parties interested.
So acquisition is all important.
Of course, sword purchases depend
on buying well. That is: buying for a price where the piece can be sold
for what was paid, - or more. As all aspects of Juyo are approximately
times 10 that of non-Juyo, great care must be taken in the often tightly
considered margins - the distance in value between purchase and sales.
There are two areas of buying. Finding
attractive Juyo properties or shepherding candidates through the Juyo Shinsa.
Buyers find an availability through
dealers or acquaintances. These, necessarily, are limited.

Juyo Club ~
Because of
the aforementioned limits, Sho-shin has constructed a new venue. Sho-shin
and its associates can investigate and search-out pieces internationally;
pieces desirable to a collection that may otherwise be unavailable or unavailable
to the open market.
Because of
the exclusive nature of Juyo, Sho-shin proposes an exclusively confidential
service. A service specifically tailored to an individual collection.
Juyo Token: A collector
can choose to have a Sho-shin Juyo agent advise for one's personal collection
on management and valuation of holdings, market viability, defining target
pieces and to arrange acquisitions.
Candidates: Sho-shin
will advise on the probability of candidates for steering through the Juyo
Shinsa process.
Sho-shin and its associates will
devote their expertise to the interests of the investor. We will find the
right sword, at the right price - whether in Europe, U.S.A. or Japan.
Juyo ownership
is a private affair. Confidences must be safe; and absolute.
Information on available Juyo can
only be disclosed to interested parties, those actually in the market for
Juyo pieces. Therefore the Juyo Club
must be private.
